JEAN MONNET MODULE

The Jean Monnet Module “Application of EU values and digital transformation: Serbian perspective” (EUDIGVAL) is designed to promote excellence in teaching and research in regard to respecting EU values in specific areas of digital transformation.

Namely, in contemporary democratic European society the application of EU values as laid down in Article 2 TEU should be spread out in a digital environment. Respecting EU values represents the basic political condition for the membership of third states in the EU and their breach may be ground for the suspension of the accession process. The project is focused widely on values confirmed in the European Declaration on Digital Rights and Principles for the Digital Decade.

The added value of EUDIGVAL is that it contributes to a better understanding of respecting EU values in the process of digital transformation and their application and harmonization of the Serbian legal system with EU law in the framework of the current process of Association and Accession of Republic of Serbia to the European Union mostly related to Chapters 10 (Digital transformation and media), 23 (Judiciary and fundamental rights) and 31 (Foreign, security and defence policy).

The Module will include six new teaching courses (270 hours in three years) that shall cover 540 students during three years, six events involving students, researchers, experts, policy-makers, legal professionals, journalists, and the production of scientific research publications. The new courses will improve the teaching contents of the existing range of undergraduate and master syllabus in European Union studies. EUDIGVAL builds on the results of past activities and represents a continuation of the Jean Monnet Modules “Accession of Serbia to the EU” and “Application of EU values in the policies of the candidate states“.
